<image:title>Our Consultants - Jenelle Nemeth BSN, RN, IBCLC</image:title>
<image:caption>Founder of Breastfeeding Savvy Consultants Jenelle has been a registered nurse for over 15 years, spending the majority of her career as a Labor & Delivery Nurse, as well as Postpartum Nurse and Lactation Consultant at Saint Peter’s Hospital. Jenelle continued her education and became an IBCLC in 2015 when she realized her knowledge in breastfeeding/ pumping was limited. She has been supporting postpartum families ever since. Jenelle also directed a daycare with over 100 children in it and was fortunate to support postpartum families in the daycare setting. Daycare enhanced Jenelle’s experience with the older breastfeeding families/toddlers and helped solidify her clinical skills in regard to the older breastfeeding infant/ toddler stages. Jenelle breastfed her daughter for 27 months and although she struggled with her son (he tested her clinical knowledge regarding food sensitivities every step of the way!) was able to persevere and enjoyed breastfeeding him past toddlerhood. When Jenelle is not helping families optimize their postpartum journey, she enjoys spending time on the lake or at the beach with her husband and children. Jenelle is the clinician behind our clinics 24/7 phone line (text or call). She realizes that the early years sometimes can not wait hours for a call back especially when it comes to feeding, newborn or postpartum questions/ concerns. Jenelle triages the situation and can convert within minutes to a virtual consult as needed.</image:caption>

<image:title>Our Consultants - Barb Donnelly BA, RN, IBCLC</image:title>
<image:caption>Barb Donnelly is a Registered Nurse and International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant. She was a long-time postpartum nurse where she discovered her love for helping mothers and families navigate the challenges and joys of breastfeeding. She was a hospital based IBCLC for 6 years before joining Breastfeeding Savvy in November of 2022. Barb has a particular interest in maternal mental health and the well-being of the entire family. Barb and her husband Michael have two children in their twenties, Liam and Maeve, and a crazy chocolate Lab named JoeB. When she’s not perpetually throwing a ball for JoeB, she enjoys baking and hiking with her husband in the ADK.’ Barb has been with Jenelle since the inception of our clinic and worked several years @ SPH with Jenelle as a nurse. Barb is competent in all postpartum related topics and is a true gem to our community!</image:caption>

<image:title>Our Consultants - Kathie Burke RN, IBCLC - Not currently practicing but we are hopeful to have kathie back in the near future</image:title>
<image:caption>Kathie is not currently practicing at our clinic but we do hope to have Kathie back in the future! Kathie is an RN who has worked in hospitals providing mothers, babies, families with care during pregnancy, birth and postpartum, for several decades. She has always had a passion for birth and nursing. She was involved with La Leche League as a young mother-long term nursing her own babies, including tandem nursing. She has been an IBCLC for more than 10 years- providing teaching, support and assistance as needed for families both in the hospital, and via outpatient phone consults and office visits as needed, for help over coming challenges. She has had the greatest joy witnessing her own grandbabies nurse. She is eternally grateful her grown children understood the value of this part of their relationship with their children. And to her firstborn granddaughter, who really struggled with breastfeeding- she and her mama taught Kathie more than she ever wished for, how to support others. She would love to support you on your journey. FUN FACT: Kathie was Jenelle’s mentor many moons ago :)</image:caption>

<image:title>Our Consultants - Annie Dolezal BSN, RN, IBCLC</image:title>
<image:caption>Annie has experience as an RN at Albany Medical Center’s PICU, the Progressive Care Unit at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, St. Peter’s NICU, and an RN CLC (lactation counselor) at St. Peter’s Women and Children’s Department. Her greatest joy is to guide parents and children to become capable and confident in new skills, and to become advocates for themselves. Annie fell in love with the art and science of breastfeeding during her own breastfeeding experience with her firstborn. She became a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) in 2018 and IBCLC in 2023. She breastfed both of her children past toddlerhood, with happiness and challenges unique to each journey. Clinical research met practical experience many times over during Annie’s own journey - with bottle refusal, nursing strikes, pumping for work, nursing while babywearing, and so many snuggles! She is looking forward to helping you and your family on your own breastfeeding journey. Annie worked with Jenelle at a nurse at SPH/Burdette Center as well & joined our clinic just months after the launch. Annie is fluid in the postpartum world & is well versed with infants who had a NICU stay or special needs.</image:caption>

<image:title>Our Consultants - Sarah Henderson MS, OTR/L, IBCLC</image:title>
<image:caption>Sarah Henderson is an occupational therapist with over 15 years experience. She spent her career at Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital helping patients return to their lives and regain independence. After having her daughter, Sarah personally experienced the rewarding yet difficult journey of breastfeeding. She realized her passion for lactation and decided to pursue a new aspect of her career to help other families meet their feeding goals! She became a Certified Lactation Counselor and joined Breastfeeding Savvy as an intern at the launch of our clinic in November 2022. Sarah gained hospital experience with another internship at Bellevue Woman’s Center. She gained her IBCLC in 2024 and now practices as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. With dedication and the support of our clinic, Sarah was able to personally experience breastfeeding while becoming a lactation consultant which was an invaluable learning opportunity for her and nursed her son past 24 months. Her children allowed her to learn firsthand about milk supply concerns, postpartum anxiety, returning to work, allergies, and breastfeeding while chasing after a preschooler. Her family enjoys going on adventures, eating good food, and playing with their pup. Sarah is thrilled for the opportunity to support you in your own unique breastfeeding experience! Sarah integrates her OT knowledge combined with her IBCLC and is fluid in every stage of the feeding journey.</image:caption>

<image:title>Services Provided - Prenatal Lactation Consultation (1 hour)</image:title>
<image:caption>This is such an important visit as it allows us to be a part of your journey while that little person is growing in utero! It will allow us to get an idea of what your delivery and breastfeeding goals are and will help us assist you in achieving these goals. This will be a private 1:1 breastfeeding preparation class that will be focused on your breastfeeding goals and how to best achieve these goals- don’t forget to invite spouse and grandparents if you want in this preparation class! (We encourage setting this appointment up between 30-34 weeks pregnant if you can only come once but ideally the research encourages clients to come between their first and second trimester and then again in their third trimester to enhance your feeding journey)We develop a breastfeeding plan based on YOUR BREASTFEEDING GOALS (this is about you and your baby- not us!) **Please see our class section to learn about our prenatal class!</image:caption>

<image:title>Services Provided - Initial Lactation Consultation (1-2 hours)</image:title>
<image:caption>This is the longest consult as we review medical history, pregnancy and delivery experience leading up to your feeding journey. This initial consult typically takes anywhere from 1-2 hours (depending on situation and needs). We develop a customized feeding plan based on YOUR FEEDING GOALS (this is about you and your baby- not us!) We review safety in its entirety as safety to you and your infant is our highest priority. We use biological feeding positions to optimize rest and relaxation while feeding. We make human milk feeding as relaxed and enjoyable as possible; this will enhance your likelihood of wanting to prolong your human milk feeding relationship. If you are uncomfortable during human milk feeding and cannot relax you will be less likely to want to prolong the human milk feeding relationship. We only practice using the most evidenced based current research, to support our recommendations. We use a hospital grade scale to ensure adequate weight and feeding assessments. We are competent to work with infants ages birth- toddlerhood with any medical conditions and are well versed in all feeding stages. This consult includes a full medical history taken on both mom and baby as well as well as a thorough assessment of infant and moms’ anatomy. A full feeding assessment will be done and a pre and post weight will be done (meaning we will see how much milk baby drank at momma’s breast!) if this is possible at the time of visit or applicable to your custom feeding plan.</image:caption>

<image:title>Services Provided - Follow Up Lactation Consultation (45mins-1 hour)</image:title>
<image:caption>This option is great for the moms who need a follow up consult. It can take a few consults to obtain “smooth sailing” within your feeding journey and even when you are “smooth sailing”, the clinical research suggests a follow up every few weeks as your feeding journey will continue to change as your infants grows and develops! Anticipatory guidance is our goal to limit unnecessary anxiety. This visit usually takes about an hour and we will alter the initial plan based on parent/ infant needs and desires. Sustainability is key as well as mental health. A detailed report will documented and sent to your other healthcare providers if you would like. A detailed care plan will be sent to your email if you would like. Our clinic phones are always open to schedule subsequent appointments.</image:caption>

<image:title>Services Provided - Introducing Foods and continuing with breastfeeding (45mins-1hour)</image:title>
<image:caption>Adding whole foods can be very exciting! It can also provoke many questions. This is a great consult to focus on safety and how to best introduce solids without negatively effecting human milk feeding. (This consult is best when infant is between 4-5.5 months)</image:caption>

<image:title>Services Provided - Bottle Feeding; Bottle refusal Consultation (1 hour)</image:title>
<image:caption>Bottle feeding can promote a lot of questions as to how much, how often or the best way to bottle feed. Sometimes a breastfeeding baby can also “refuse” a bottle. We have extensive experience with getting even the oldest babies to happily take a bottle. Our goal is to help eliminate stress with this consult.</image:caption>

<image:title>Services Provided - Weaning Consultation (1 hour)</image:title>
<image:caption>This consultation can be bittersweet for many moms and infants/toddlers. There is never a right or wrong time to stop breastfeeding, or human milk feeding. We realize the AAP recommends two years and beyond due to the benefits human milk provides to moms and babies, however, a mother and infants physical and mental health is always priority. There is a safe way as well as a gentle way to make the ending as positive as possible for both mom and baby. Let us help make the ending as beautiful as the beginning. (Any age: when mom is done, we support that!)</image:caption>

<image:title>Insurance Coverage and The Affordable Care Act - How the Affordable Care Act changed breastfeeding</image:title>
<image:caption>Insurance benefits for pregnancy, childbirth, and maternal health can be tricky to understand in the first place. No wonder! Each provider and each plan are different in how they address everything that goes into it. Before the ACA, breastfeeding support through insurance was inconsistent—there were no mandates to cover anything having to do with breastfeeding. Some insurance policies may have been generous with access to high-quality breast pumps, lactation consultant visits, and even shipping milk. Still, lots of parents had zero support, even when they were covered by insurance. The Affordable Care Act (ACA), signed into law by President Barack Obama in March 2010, changed this: Mandated that mothers needed to be given reasonable break time and private space to express milk for up to 1 year after giving birth. Required health insurance benefits to lower costs associated with providing breast milk to children. Under the ACA, all private insurance companies have to provide coverage for comprehensive breastfeeding support — without any out-of-pocket costs for parents. please mention the affordable care act when calling your insurance- its law! Under the ACA, all private insurance companies have to provide coverage for comprehensive breastfeeding support — without any out-of-pocket costs for parents. Getting the breastfeeding support you deserve through ACA Since the ACA went into effect in 2010, insurance companies have changed their breastfeeding coverage policies. You should check with your insurance provider to see: What kind of pump—brand, type of pump, and features—you’re entitled to have? When and where can you get the pump? Whether renting a hospital-grade pump is covered? How much lactation support can you access? Do you need preauthorization to work with a lactation consultant? Where can you find a list of in-network lactation consultants? Do they reimburse for out of network lactation consultants? Did you know? Every time you give birth, your insurance provider has to offer you a breast pump AND access to breastfeeding education and support (i.e., lactation counseling) without making you take on a copay. THIS IS A FEDERAL LAW! Ask questions and ask for help</image:caption>
